I am interested in making my own fossil. Not a replica, a real fossil.

Can it be done? If so, how could it be done and what do I need to do it? How long would it take? Has anyone else ever done it before or it this an experiment only Nature's kitchen can cook up?

I guess another question would be, are fossils being made today, I mean in the natural way? Is this a question that is like alchemy or making artificial diamonds? Lots of questions here. Any answers?

I thought I had heard of chicken bones being fossilized in just a few years but when I tried to look it up I only found recipies for making a hard crust around things like chicken bones. I'm sure that tossing bones in a hole in the yard wouldn't produce fossils. There probably has to be certain amounts and kinds of minerals besides a lot of water, mud and sand. Does the pressure from layers of earth that Dino bones have been under contribute to fossil-making?
