As long as I can remember, I've been interested in dinosaurs. Specifically, I remember my parents taking
my brother and I to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City at
age 7. I was completely overwhelmed with the sheer size of these amazing
animals. My interest continued to grow with the release of the Jurassic Park
movies over the years. The thing I found most fascinating was that the movies
(for the most part) depicted these creatures as real animals with | real movements/sounds etc. I also spent some time at our local museum working
in the lab preparing dinosaur fossils. It wasn't until the fall of 2001, at age 32 that I found myself working on
drawings of dinosaurs. Prior to this, I had spent the better part of 10 years
playing drums in a number of local bands. Additionally, I taught drum lessons
and wrote an instructional book. I initially began as a self-taught artist; however, I'm currently taking art classes to improve my technique. In addition, I've been fortunate to have anatomical/musculature assistance from Todd Marshall, John Burris, and Scott Hartman.
| At this time, I prefer to work with a combination of graphite, charcoal, and
carbon on illustration board. Eventually, I hope to include colored pencil.
I've been fortunate by having my art included in issues #56 through #60, #62 and 64 through 66 of Prehistoric Times. Thanks Mike !!!. I am motivated to depict dinosaurs
in a natural way in their environment with as much scientific information as I
can gather. With this thought, I hope to continue to produce quality art. Anthony Pichler |
