When I was a child my hobbies were art, dinosaurs and outer space.

I can remember a period when my mother would bring home a new Time-Life booklet every week from the grocery store. My favorite was a book about dinosaurs, featuring pictures of the famous Zallinger mural. At the age of eight my parents enrolled me in Saturday morning art classes at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. When not drawing "assigned" subjects like vases of flowers, I was busy creating space and dinosaur paintings.

Since I knew nothing about a career in paleo-illustration, I decided I wanted to be an astronomer. In working toward that goal I majored in physics and astronomy in college, receiving a bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University and a master's degree from the University of Toledo. However, before I started looking for work in research astronomy, I accepted a position as staff artist at a new planetarium in Memphis, Tennessee. For over twenty years I've been producing illustrations and scripts for planetarium shows, but I never forgot about dinosaurs. A few years ago I wrote a planetarium show about dinosaurs and created a batch of dinosaur illustrations - the first I had made since I was a kid. My career as a paleo-artist had begun.

Both my dinosaur and space art have been widely published by clients such as National Geographic, Microsoft, TIME and Encyclopedia Britannica. One of my first dinosaur illustrations made an appearance in the DreamWorks movie 'Deep Impact'. My alma mater, Youngstown State University, gave me an honorary Doctor of Science Degree in recognition of my lifetime achievements in science illustration.
